As the chill of winter begins to thaw and the days start to get longer, Massachusetts residents know that spring is just around the corner. And with spring comes the start of maple sugaring season, a sweet and delicious tradition celebrated for centuries.
For those unfamiliar with the process, maple sugaring involves tapping maple trees and collecting their sap, which is then boiled down into a thick, sweet syrup. The process is time-consuming and labor-intensive, but the result is a beloved treat that can be used in a variety of dishes and enjoyed straight from the bottle.
Fortunately for Massachusetts residents, there are plenty of places in the state where you can learn about the maple sugaring process and even taste some fresh syrup for yourself.
